A Window Opens

Updated: Nov 8

Thank heavens for pop music.

Yesterday, Nov. 6, the day after the US Election, two songs kept me going:

Yesterday did not bring the outcome I wanted.

I cannot change that.

I can change my attitude.

My fingers crossed for the future

As my co-host for the "morning after" Democrats Abroad brunch in Antibes reminded me -

“Channel passion to purpose.”

Brilliant.

So I'm doubling down on my work to empower women.

By bringing to life the stories of Forgotten Women of France.

Amazing women who have been forgotten, misunderstood, maligned.

Especially stories from bygone eras - they sneak up on you more, like a Trojan Horse.

And best of all?

I was gifted with an awesome synchronicity.

She Up There may have closed a door for progress in the States.

But She opened a window for me here in Europe.

(I do realize my little life is sooo trivial compared to the world...but we do what we can...)

Back to the synchronicity:

I have a fantastic idea for a new piece.

But it is bigger than a play or a musical.

It may be a series? says a colleague in my Friday Writers’ Group last Friday.

But I’ve never written a "screenplay."

Never even wanted to.

Too many people already do it.

Focus on what I know.

But what do I do with this Big Idea?

THE NEXT DAY, that colleague sends me an opportunity for a residency at a retreat in the UK.

For screenwriting.

I wasn't gonna - but what the heck.

Sunday, I apply.

Monday, I get it!

So in two weeks – yikes! – I’m off to Screenwriters & Co, somewhere in the hinterlands a few hours north of London.

I will get the basics and dig into this piece.

Which I think of as Succession meets Masterpiece meets the Kardashians meets the Middle Ages meets King Lear. And it has songs.

What exactly IS it?

You’ll see…
